One of the things I’ve learned as a therapist is that most of us spend the prime of our lives without the benefit of having two key factors operating in our favour: the carrot of a worthy goal that draws us forward with hope liberating the energy to stretch ourselves and grow by overcoming obstacles – and the necessary stick in the form of a terrifying sense of nothingness that rises up like a monster to consume us whenever we waste time.

Many of my clients live with both – a desire to make a baby when their body won’t allow it, and an unimaginable future should it not happen. That’s a profoundly powerful space to occupy!  As the year draws to a close the journey continues, we don’t need a New Year’s resolution, we need to focus on what we want until we can taste it and allow ourselves to feel the painful stick now and again – it’s all good!
